PGA Tour – UGA continues unrivaled success at Byron Nelson

Georgia Bulldogs Own PGA Tour 01

The list of superlatives for the Georgia Bulldogs on the PGA Tour is growing to urban legend status.

6 wins from 5 formers….more than $16.1M in official PGA Tour earnings….4 formers with more than $2M on the year…the year’s only Major Championship…10 formers with official earnings…it just keeps going…

Sunday at the HP Byron Nelson Championship Brendon Todd put his name on the list of Tour winners for the year. He also punched his ticket to the Masters next year, where the UGA will have 42 formers competing (kidding of course).

2nd ranked Georgia Tech is putting on it’s own impressive display this year as well. Remember, the Yellow Jackets are the defending Rivals Cup Champions from 2013 when they cumulatively earned more than $11M on the year.

The rambling wreck has amassed more than $8M already this year and is on pace to eclipse their total from last year. If they could just do something to slow down their cross-state rivals…

Oklahoma State made the only move inside the top 5 this week moving up one spot to #3 on the PGA Tour. The Cowboys swapped spots in the top 5 with UNLV.

OSU is no stranger to being among the elite NCAA programs on the PGA Tour. In fact, they won the inaugural Rivals Cup in 2011 and if that wasn’t enough, they repeated again in 2012.

9 former Pokes have now earned a cumulative $5M this season and are still without a win. While it may be a long shot to think they could catch UGA for the title, if they get a win or two they could certainly catch Georgia Tech for 2nd.

The SEC is closing in on the $30M mark for the season. Three SEC schools (Florida, Georgia and Kentucky) have won a total of 8 events this year – about 30% of all tournaments.

The key to the Dawgs success? It’s clearly not their equipment! Five different Dawg winners using 4 different Drivers (only Kirk and English play same Callaway brand). Four of the 5 do play Titleist balls (Henley plays Nike). Just waiting to see if it’s Kisner, Harman, Compton, or Swafford who breaks through next!
